‘iolanthe’

iolanthe is the mythological fairy of song; she is rebellious and passionate, and she lives in Burgess Hill.

Catherine Carpenter (artist name ‘iolanthe’), a former pupil of Burgess Hill School for Girls and Central Sussex College in Haywards Heath, signed a recording contract with Downtown Studios in London last year after a successful audition and released her first single, ‘Know Me’, on 29^th August 2015.

She started writing her own songs at the age of 11, performing her first song in her music class at school. She has acted in a TV commercial, numerous short films, an independent feature film, plays and musicals such as ‘Iolanthe’. She says, “This is one of the reasons why I call myself iolanthe. I absolutely love fairies and iolanthe is the mythological fairy of song - but is the only fairy who committed a crime when she married a mortal. Therefore she is rebellious and passionate, which is why she’s my favourite.”

iolanthe, 22 year old, has always loved performing. At school she had singing lessons and achieved a drama scholarship; music has always played a prominent part in iolanthe’s life. She plays a number of instruments including the piano. She says “Last year was a very exciting year writing and recording my own songs with a brilliant record producer, Sean”.

As well as writing all her songs, she also sings all her own harmonies. Whilst she enjoys other ventures like acting, film & theatre directing and production, (she directed a play that was performed at the Camden Fringe Festival last week), iolanthe’s first passion is singing and she is now ready to take her songs to the next level.
